Class of 2010 Top 200 Player Ratings
Posted by Bob Gibbons on 12/13 at 09:14 PM
With the conclusion of the fall signing period, and the start of the high school basketball season, it is timely to update our Top 200 player rankings for the Class of 2010. At this writing the early signings were down slightly from the past several years. Three of our Top 10, and seven of our Top 25 seniors did not sign early. Player signings did include 40 of the national Top 50, 88 of the Top 100, and 176 of our Top 200 seniors. Obviously, the number of still available top rated prospects has been reduced significantly. However, this provides an opportunity for many “under the radar” seniors to attract attention from colleges still in search of players for the spring signing period.

2009 Marshall County Hoopfest
Posted by Andre Whitehead on 12/12 at 08:49 AM
BENTON, KY--A terrific basketball atmosphere has always defined the general feeling for spectators at the annual Marshall County Hoopfest, and it continued with this year’s version, although the attendance appeared to be down at Reed Conder Gynasium. This probably was due to the fact that host Marshall County High School did not play games on the prime days of Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5.

Oak Hill vs. Hargrave Annual Scrimmage
Posted by Bob Gibbons on 10/26 at 09:11 AM
Pulaski, VA - We recently attended the 20th Annual Scrimmage between these two basketball powerhouses dating back to 1990. It has been our good fortune to have been at all twenty. The event features two institutions loaded with outstanding basketball talent that should perform well at some collegiate level, including the elite who could become “stars of tomorrow.” Look for Hargrave Military to be one of the top rated prep schools, and Oak Hill Academy to contend with Findlay Prep, St. Patrick, St. Benedict’s, Mater Dei, and others for the No. 1 high school ranking.

Posted by Rob Matera on 10/21 at 10:24 AM
The 15th Annual Bob Gibbons Fall Evaluation Clinic included 148 promising prospects, and was held October 17-18 at the state of the art, five full court facilities at Carolina Courts in Indian Trail, NC. The event featured intense station drills with players divided into posts, wings, and points, with the purpose of teaching basic fundamental skills that are so lacking in the players at every level of the game. Our theme for this event is “Back to the Basics.”

Class of 2010 Post-Summer Top 175 Ratings
Posted by Bob Gibbons on 08/17 at 08:30 PM
Since the spring and summer evaluation periods are now history, and 2010 players have started their senior year of high school, it is timely to update our ratings of the top prospects in this class. As previously written, the Class of 2010 has good talent, but may not have the overall depth of recent years, particularly at the post position. During the past twelve or more years talented young players have been encouraged to make their college decisions at the earliest possible age. And, at this writing 67 of our Top 100 rising seniors had already committed to a college. We anticipate that these numbers will increase significantly now that most young men have stopped playing on summer travel teams, have attended college “elite camps,” and will be making campus visits prior to the November 11-18 fall signing period.

Class of 2009 Top 150 Introduction
Posted by Bob Gibbons on 02/10 at 01:34 AM
This is our 32nd year of compiling ratings of the nation’s Top 150 high school seniors, dating back to 1978. The Class of 2009 has good depth of talent, but, does not rank among the fifteen best classes that we have evaluated. However, it could be included among our Top 20 overall classes. Player ratings are very subjective, and, for many they depend upon individual performances in a specific game or event. I try to see players multiple times, escpecially with their high school team. And, ratings are constantly changing, with player evaluation grades going up or down. This most process definitely is an inexact science. But, my staff and I pride ourselves on trying to be as accurate and consistent as possible. We use a player’s full body of work or total achievement during his high school career as the basis for our ratings.

Prep elite talents shine at streetball's Mecca
Posted by Rob Matera on 09/03 at 09:55 AM
With all of the top high school players split into allegiances to the three big sneaker companies, it is a rare event where they are all together and competing against one another. Obligations to play in a certain shoe camp, or to travel on one company’s AAU circuit make it nearly impossible for the very best of the best to go head to head. Sure, the McDonald’s All-America Game typically accomplishes this goal, but it’s held in the post-season, and includes only graduating seniors. The organizers of the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Hoops Classic set out to change all that.
